On Thursday 26 November, we gave an online seminar entitled “Surface Treatment of Wood and Wooden Elements in Historic Buildings” about Bochemit’s wood-impregnation process. The seminar was arranged by the Association for Heritage Protection Technologies (known in Czech as “STOP”). This independent association of individuals and companies aims to resolve issues in heritage care through issues that unite the artistic, historical and technological spheres.
The seminar was put on for heritage institute staff, local and government authorities, heritage site managers, restorers and conservators, architects and designers, students and teachers at vocational schools and others interested in heritage protection.
In addition to our presentation on “Anti-pest wood impregnation: Prevention to rescue", participants were able to hear about wood surface treatment in a historical context and from the perspective of our practical experience in wooden surface treatment as an accredited testing laboratory. We also touched on intumescent fire-retardant wood coatings, measuring the thickness of wood coating systems, wood’s liquid permeability and our reflections on the decline in monument protection craftsmanship.
