Sýpka Gallery Rises From the Ashes

Sýpka Gallery Rises From the Ashes

At the beginning of April 2025, after two months of intensive renovation, the Sýpka Gallery, part of Dvůr Šternberk (Šternberk Court) in the municipality of Klášter pod Zelenou Horou, was officially opened. During the restoration of this Baroque building from 1670, it was necessary to treat all wooden structural elements – pillars, beams – with the colorless insecticide Bochemit Plus I, designed to eliminate wood-destroying insects and prevent further infestation.

The history of Dvůr Šternberk is closely linked to the noble Šternberk family. The building originally served as the economic base of the castle estate and, during its heyday, was known for its brewery and farm. The Baroque granary, which is part of the complex, was used for centuries to store grain, and from the 1960s onwards it was used by the army as a warehouse for materials. This period is recalled by author Miroslav Švandrlík in his book "Černí baroni" (The Black Barons), which was adapted into a film shot in Zelená Hora and Šternberk.

The aim of the renovation was to breathe new life into this historic building, give it a functional use, and at the same time preserve its historical value. Since April 2025, Sýpka Gallery has been offering visitors the Museum of the Czechoslovak People's Army (ČSLA), the Museum of Beekeeping, an art gallery, and the Black Barons Nepomuk club facility with refreshments.

All construction work was thoroughly carried out by AZ stavby Koresta, a company led by owner Martin Novák. Projects carried out by this company from Měcholupy can be seen throughout the Czech Republic.
