It all starts out with an inconspicuous mould forming in the recess of the wall and ends with the desperate homeowner gradually detecting irreparable damage in the timber structure. Ominous strands of an unerring consistency hang from the sturdy ceiling beams which used to adorn the room. There is no mistaking it - an unwelcome guest has moved in: dry rot, one of the most harmful wood-decaying fungi in existence.
Dry rot is not easy to deal with. Affected parts must be removed, while all remaining timber surfaces must be properly cleaned and the timber must be left to dry. Structural changes may even be required. Make sure the right structure is in place, ensure that floors are well insulated against water and moisture, adequately ventilate rooms and don’t forget to provide long-term chemical protection of timber against wood-decaying insects, fungi and mould. BOCHEMIT Opti F+ or BOCHEMIT QB Profi would be the best product to use here.
